Return from winter break will be delayed for NWSS students

Hello NWSS Families and Students,

I hope you have all enjoyed your holidays and will continue to do so through the weekend.

As you know, the Omicron variant’s impact is evolving rapidly and on Wednesday, December 29th, the PHO and the Ministry of Education announced that the return from winter break will be delayed for students, who will not return to school until January 10th. Students will be on an extended break and there is no expectation for students to be doing assigned work and teachers will not be providing work for students next week. Our Superintendent, Karim Hachlaf sent a letter to families yesterday to provide further clarification about the delayed start for students. I have attached his letter here.

Students with diverse needs and children of essential service and frontline workers (first responders, health care workers, teachers, etc) will be provided the option to receive modified supports and supervision through the regular school day. If your child(ren) needs to attend school between January 4th and 7th for some or all of that time or if you have any questions, please contact your child’s administrator as soon as possible to coordinate the appropriate support for your child(ren) and family.

Again, the Covid situation in BC is continually evolving and things may change before January 4th. Please continue to monitor your email as I will provide updates only if necessary.

Take care and enjoy the long weekend!
