Departments & Programs - Technology Education
Applied Design, Skills and Technology (ADST) – Technology Education
Our Technology department offers a wide range of subjects and programs under the umbrella of Technology Education. These include:
- Electronics/Engineering (robotics and programming)
- Metal work (Metal fabrication, Art Jewelry, Bike Maintenance and repair)
- Technology 9 (introduction to multiple areas)
We also offer trades apprenticeship programs that run all day, all semester in both Carpentry and Plumbing. These programs are partnered with post-secondary institutions, the British Columbia Institute of Technology and the Piping Industry College. When the programs are successfully completed, students receive their Level #1 Government Certification for the technical component towards their Red Seal apprenticeship, while simultaneously earning credits towards their high school credits.
Our classes are designed to introduce students to the concepts and procedures of their chosen subject areas while integrating STEM curriculum – an integrated and applied approach to learning science, technology, engineering and mathematics based on real-world applications . We have been proactive in incorporating new and emerging technologies such as 3D printing and CNC routers into our programs. As students progress to senior classes, we expand the depth of their understanding of the concepts and refined procedures used in these areas.
Our goal is to encourage creativity in design, prototyping, and building projects while facilitating critical thinking and problem solving – and to have fun while learning. Our aim is that students graduate with wide-ranging theory and practical skills that are career transferable and be confident in their abilities, allowing them to become productive members of society.
